The NIA court in Kochi has sentenced five activists of the banned Students Islamic Movements of India SIMI in the secret meeting case of 2006. Two accused were sentenced to 14 years rigorous imprisonment along with fine, while three others were sentenced to 12 years with fine under Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
The NIA court in Kochi sentenced P A Shaduly and Abdul Rasik, the first and second accused in the secret meeting case of Kochi for a total of 14 years rigorous imprisonment under Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. They were sentenced for three years for seditious activities under Indian Penal Code. They were also sentenced for seven years, two years and again two years rigorous imprisonments also under various sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, UAPA. They were sentenced for a total fine of 60,000 rupees also. The third, fourth and fifth accused in the case, Ansar Nadvi, Nizamudeen and Shammi Shammas were sentenced for a total of 12 years rigorous imprisonment under IPC and UAPA.
A total of 55,000 will be imposed as fine from these three. All these convicted have to undergo consequent imprisonment in various cases. They were arrested for organizing secret meeting at Panayikkulam near Kochi on August 15th 2006.
