Kerala continues to be under high alert due to the outbreak of Nipah virus. Two more people lost their lives in Kozhikode district of Kerala today.
The toll in the Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala touched 11 with two more persons succumbing on Tuesday. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the virus in blood and fluid samples taken from all the victims.

Eight of the dead are from Kozhikode district, including the first three victims from a single family, and three from Malappuram district.

According to the office of the District Medical Officer, Kozhikode, 19 persons are under treatment for the infection, two of whom are in critical condition.

A team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) arrived in Kerala on Tuesday to assist the State Health Department. A National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) team has been camping here since Monday.

State Health Minister K K Sahailaja said that 12 people who are presently under treatment in Kozhikode are confirmed to be infected by the Nipah virus, out of which two are in critical condition. Meanwhile the reason of two death in Malappuram district last week is ascertained to be Nipah virus contamination.

Three central teams are visiting the infected regions of the district and is working in close connection with the State health department. Meanwhile, the government urged the public not to panic and said that the situation is in control.
