The All India Unani Tibbi Congress has welcomed what it described as a positive response from the Kerala government regarding its request for the establishment of a government Unani medical college in the state.

According to a statement issued by the organisation, Dr. Syed Ahmad Khan, National General Secretary of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress, had recently submitted representations to Kerala Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary seeking the setting up of a government-run institution dedicated to Unani medical education, research and healthcare services. The organisation said that the state government has now responded positively to the request.

Expressing satisfaction over the development, Dr. Khan said the response from the Kerala government was encouraging and reflected openness towards strengthening traditional systems of medicine. He voiced hope that just as Kerala has played a significant role in promoting Ayurveda and other medical systems recognized by the Government of India, it would also extend meaningful support to the growth and advancement of the Unani system of medicine.

Dr. Khan emphasized that the establishment of a government Unani medical college would not only expand educational opportunities for students interested in Unani medicine but would also help strengthen healthcare delivery, research and the preservation of the system’s rich therapeutic traditions. He said such an institution could become an important centre for training qualified practitioners and promoting evidence-based development of Unani medicine in southern India.

Welcoming the state’s positive stance, Dr. Khan directed Dr. K.T. Ajmal, President of the Kerala unit of the All India Unani Tibbi Congress, to intensify efforts and engage with the concerned authorities to take the proposal forward. He urged the state leadership of the organisation to work actively toward building wider support for the project and facilitating the early establishment of a government Unani medical college in Kerala.

The All India Unani Tibbi Congress expressed confidence that continued dialogue with the state government would help translate the proposal into a concrete initiative that would benefit students, practitioners and patients alike while contributing to the broader development of India’s traditional systems of medicine.
