Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kerala Assembly will convene for a day, tomorrow, for the passage of the Finance Bill following strict COVID protocol.

The 14th Kerala Legislative Assembly’s 20th session will also be taking up the opposition UDF’s notice for a no-confidence motion against the ruling LDF government. The discussion on it will be held for 5 hours. The no-confidence motion is the part of opposition’s protest seeking Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s resignation, alleging that his office was linked to the recent case of gold smuggling through the diplomatic channel.

The by-election to the Rajya Sabha seat which fell vacant after the death of sitting member M P Veerandra Kumar, would also be held tomorrow. The voting will be from 9am to 4 pm in the assembly complex and the result is expected by 5:30 in the evening.

Strict COVID protocol will be followed in the session including social distancing in seating, restrictions on visitors and officials and antigen tests for all the members. A medical team would conduct the rapid antigen tests on the members early in the morning. For the members who are turning COVID positive in the antigen test and for those from the containment zones, special arrangements have been made.

All the members will be provided with a sanitiser, mask and a face-shield along with a pair of gloves. The Public and the Speaker’s galleries would be closed and all those entering the assembly complex would be subjected to thermal scanning.
