THRISSUR: The mortal remains of veteran Congress leader K Karunakaran were consigned to flames at Poonkunnam this evening, with full state honours.

Earlier Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh paid homage at the MunicipalTown Hall at Thrissur.  Thousands bid a tearful adieu to veteran Congress leader Karunakaran, whose mortal remains were consigned to flames with full state honours at here  this evening. His son Muralidharan lit the funeral pyre after the last rituals were performed by family members. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Kerala Governor R S Gavai, union ministers A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, AICC General Secretary Mrs Mohsina Kidwai and state ministers were among the host of dignitaries who paid homage to the departed leader. As a man who touched the lives of many during his long political innings spanning over four decades, Karunakaran leaves behind a void in the state politics that is very difficult to fill.
