Karnataka Panchayat polls to be held in two phases on Dec 22, 27

The Karnataka State Election Commission has announced elections for 5762 Gram Panchayats today. The Commissioner of the state Election Commission Dr. B Basavaraj informed media persons in Bengaluru today that the elections will be held in two phases. The first phase of the election will be held on December 22nd for 2930 Gram Panchayats in 113 Taluks and the second phase election will be on December 27th in 2832 Gram Panchayats in 113 Taluks.

The counting of votes will be held for both the phases on December 30th. The elections will be held using the ballot papers except in Bidar district where EVMs will be used. There will be 45,128 polling booths opened for the purpose with 1000 voters in each booth. The voting will be held from morning 7.00 am to 5.00 pm. Due to the Covid situation Dr. Basavaraj informed that all precautions like wearing of masks, social distancing and hygiene will be taken while conducting the polls.
