Karnataka is one of the states to face the problem of malnutrition among children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

According to the Integrated Child Development Services data, the stunting average among children in the state is 32.5 per cent as compared to the national average of 35 per cent, but wasting or underweight average is 26.1 per cent as compared to the national average of 20 per cent and anaemia average in Karnataka is 60.9 per cent as compared to 58.6 per cent at the national level.

To mitigate the problem of malnutrition the state is implementing Poshan Abhiyan, the flagship programme of the Central Government.

The Integrated Child Develop Service Joint Director in the State Department of Women and Child development Surekha Vijayprakash spoke to AIR on the programmes planned during the Poshan maah being celebrated this month.
