Reacting over the Ayodhaya verdict the apex body of India Muslims, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board today said that the supreme court is against its expectations.
“The judgment is against our expectations. We presented solid evidences to prove our stance. Our legal committee will review the judgment. We have sincerely tried to fulfill our responsibility to restore the demolished Babri Masjid”, Board said in a statement.
‘We are not satisfied with judgement. We will decide future course of action after reading whole judgement. There are several contradictions and some incorrect findings also. We appeal nation to maintain peace’ said: Zafaryab Jilani.
‘It seems that the court has exercised extraordinary powers to confer title, which we object to. This is a questionable judgement”: S R Shamshad advocate for AIMPLB
At a joint press conference by the AIMPLB and Muslim bodies after the verdict, they appealed to all sections of society to maintain calm.
“The legal team for the mosque will analyse the judgment based on which a decision will be taken for future course of action, including challenging the judgment,” Jilani said.
Outlining the reason for the reservations, Jilani said the court upheld the submissions that namaz was offered in the inner courtyard of the premises till 1949. Ironically, it clubbed the premises of inner and the outer courtyards as composite land for giving it for the temple, he added.
Moreover, contrary to the submission by the temple side, the court observed that the Muslims had never abandoned the claim on the premises of the inner courtyard even though namaz was not offered after 1949 following installation of Lord Ram’s idol, he added.
There is no question of accepting the offer of five-acre land, said Jilani.
He said the court upholding the Muslim side’s submission that the mosque was constructed not after demolition of any temple was among other ironies marking the judgment. This allowed scope for challenging the verdict, first in the form of a review petition and then in the form of a curative petition, Jilani said.
“The judgment will be termed questionable for all times to come,” said another leader at the conference.
Jilani said they appealed to all to take the verdict gracefully even though the matter was subject to challenge legally.
We are not satisfied with the judgment: Jamaat-e-Islami
AMN / New Delhi
The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Syed Sadatullah Hussaini has appealed to all citizens of India for maintaining peace and communal harmony after the Supreme Court of India delivered the Ayodhya verdict today morning.
Addressing the media the JIH President said: “We are not completely satisfied with the Supreme Court judgment on the “Babri Masjid title suit”, some points of the judgment are very important as they strengthen the Constitution of India and will help in maintaining law and order in the country. However, we disagree with many things in the verdict, especially the conclusion.
We live in a civilized society where the rule of the law is paramount. We have always been saying that we will honor, respect, and accept what the Supreme Court and the judicial process will conclude. Our lawyers are reviewing the judgment whether there is scope to file a review or curative petition and we will make a decision regarding that in consultation with the other Muslim Personal Law Board members.
To conclude, we are not satisfied with the judgment but we appeal to the people that they must honor the judgment, respect the law, and maintain communal harmony. There should not be any polarization on communal lines due to the verdict. This judgment is neither a victory nor defeat of any party.”
