Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has said, journalists also serve the nation like Army personnel.
Speaking at a condolence meeting organised in Doordarshan Bhavan over the death of cameraman Achutyanand Sahu in Chhattisgarh, Mr Rathore said, Doordarshan is properly fulfilling its responsibility of informing the nation. He said, the Prasar Bharti stands by the family of Mr Sahu.
Speaking on the occasion, Prasar Bharti Chairman Dr A Surya Prakash said, it is a sad moment for all of us and he saluted the courage and bravery of the cameraman. He said, national broadcaster is responsible to promote the democratic spirit of the country.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare, Prasar Bharti CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati, DG News All India Radio Ira Joshi and DG News Doordarshan Mayank Agarwal were also present on the occasion.
DD News Correspondent Dheeraj Kumar shared the detailed account of the shoot out. Mor Mukut Sharma, the lighting assistant, who also shot the video of the encounter on his mobile, revealed how he thought that he was not going to survive the attack.
Later in the evening, a condolence meeting was held at Press Club of India in New Delhi where journalists and camerapersons paid tributes to Sahu and condemned the Naxal attack on media persons.
The journalists and camerapersons also took out a candlelight march at India Gate in memory of slain DD Cameraman Achyutanand Sahu.
