JNUJawahar Lal Nehru University vice chancellor Professor M Jagadesh Kumar appealed to entire JNU community that it is everybody’s responsibility to bring in normalcy and go on with academic activity. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Prof Kumar said JNU administration has already formed a high level enquiry committee to look into the issue. He said the committee is collecting all the evidence available.

Prof Kumar said the committee has been given time upto February 25th to come out with their recommendations. He, however, said any problem can be solved through discussion and there is no need for any strike. He said the university encourage open expression of views and ideas as far as it is peaceful.

The escalating stand-off over the arrest of JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges today saw the students going on strike till he is released.

While the teachers yesterday extended solidarity with the students over the issue, they have not joined the strike yet. Kanhaiya, who was sent to three-days police custody, will be produced in court today.
