The Left-Unity alliance swept all the top post in Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union election, while ABVP maintained its dominance in the Delhi University Student Union Elections.

The Left Unity alliance was between CPI (ML)’s student wing All India Students’ Association (AISA) and Student Federation of India (SFI) of the CPI (M). Giving a tough fight to the Left-Unity was Birsa Ambdekar Phule Students Association (BAPSA) which was on the second position for the Presidential post while BJP led Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) was the second runner for the post of Vice President and General Secretary.

In the results announced last night, Mohit Pandey of Left-Unity alliance was elected as the JNUSU president, defeating Rahul Sonpimple of BAPSA by a margin of 409 votes. Amal Pipli on the post of Vice President, Satapurta Chakraborty as General Secretary and Tabrez Hussain as Joint Secretary all from the AISA-SFI alliance have been elected.

The alliance also emerged victorious on 30 out of 31 seats for councillors. ABVP won the remaining councillor seat.

The Left-affiliated groups had came under heavy criticism on the JNU campus, in aftermath of the 9th Feburary incident during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised, leading to arrest of three students, including the outgoing JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar, in a sedition case.

In the Delhi University Student Union Elections ABVP continued its dominance as it bagged three out of the four seats. The student wing of BJP won the posts of President, Vice President and Secretary while the post of joint secretary went to Congress’s student wing National Students Union of India, NSUI.

Amit Tanwar was elected for the president’s post and Priyanka Chabri won vice president’s post. Ankit Sangwan has been elected as Secretary and Mohit Garid got elected as Joint Secretary.
