MehboobaAmid the protest over Handwara firing in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today met Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi and raised the issue of raised firing by Army in which three civilians were killed.

She said, the minister assured her that a probe will be initiated and the culprits will be punished. The Chief Minister also raised the issue of handing over of civilian land from army to the state government.

Ms. Mehbooba who is on her maiden visit to the national capital after assuming the post of Chief Minister, also met Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu to discuss various development projects being undertaken by the state and central government. She met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley yesterday. In a tweet, the Prime Minister’s Office said that Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, called on PM Narendra Modi today at New Delhi.

Army today released a video of the girl denying molestation by any army personnel at Handwara on the 12th of April. In the video, the girl is seen speaking to local media persons. According to the Srinagar based army spokesperson Col N N Joshi, the army has verified the authenticity of the video and identity of the girl.

The girl is seen saying that she went to the nearby washroom along with her friend and suddenly a youth appeared before her and took her bag away. As per her statement in the video, the boy resisted her to go to the nearby police station. In the meanwhile, the other youth shouted slogans and instigated violence.

Meanwhile, situation in north Kashmir’s Handwara town and adjacent areas of Kupwara district continued to be tense following the killing of two youths in alleged army firing when locals were protesting alleged molestation bid by army troopers of a local girl student yesterday.
