Following the arrest of 34 Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday night, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take measures for their release along with the 86 fishermen who are set to be released by the neighbouring country today.
She also demanded action to secure the release of 46 boats that are under the custody of Sri Lanka. Leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu have condemned the fresh cases of arrests.
The Centre had told the Tamil Nadu government that 86 fishermen are set to be released by Sri Lanka today.
