The cold wave continued to grip Jammu and Kashmir today, with several places recording the lowest temperatures of the season. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that in the Kashmir Valley, sub-zero temperatures prevailed across many districts. In the Jammu region, temperatures remained above freezing in most areas, though Bhaderwah recorded minus 3.4 degrees Celsius and Rajouri minus 1.0 degrees. Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees, while Banihal settled at 3.7 degrees.

In the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, while the airport settled at minus 6.8 degrees. Gulmarg, a key tourist destination, registered a low of minus 9.2 degrees, while Sonamarg recorded minus 9.8 degrees. The weather department has said that cold wave conditions are likely to persist in parts of the region over the next few days. The Union Territory is likely to witness largely dry and stable weather conditions till January 22, with no major weather disturbance expected during this period. It further cautioned that moderate fog is likely to prevail over the plains of Jammu division, with dense fog at isolated places, a condition expected to continue for the next four days.
