Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has extended its support to Congress party on majority of the 126 seats for Assembly polls in Assam. Jamaat also announced to support All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) of Badruddin Ajmal on some seats.
Talking to media persons here on Saturday, Mohammad Ahmed, Jamaat’s Secretary for National & Community Affairs, said Jamaat has decided to support Congress on 99 seats while AIUDF on 15 seats.
“This is our strategy to keep communal forces away from power. If we are supporting Congress, it does not mean we love Congress. We are doing it only to keep communal forces away,” said Ahmed when asked about Jamaat’s strategy for Assam.
Assam is going to polls on 4 and 11 April. First of six phases of polls for West Bengal will also be held on 4th April.
