Senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to get his re election to Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh and not Gujarat, says party sources. Jaitely is currently representing Gujarat in the Upper House.
Jaitely who is leader of Upper House is retiring on April 2. With having 325 Assembly seats in UP, the BJP is in a comfortable position to win eight of the 10 seats of members who retire on April 2.
According to BJP sources Jaitely would be a party candidate from UP for Rajya Sabha. In recent Assembly polls BJP strength in Gujarat has reduced to 99, the BJP is in a position to win back only two of the four vacancies being created from the state.
The two retiring BJP members likely to be re-nominated from Gujarat are Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala and Minister of State for Roads and Highways and Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukhbhai Mandaviya, the sources said.
