In Italian open tennis, top-seeded Simona Halep of Romania lifted the title as Czech player Karolína Pliskova retired half way following injury in the finals played this evening at Rome. Halep was leading 6-0, 2-1 when Pliskova retired hurt.

Pliskova attempted to continue playing after receiving treatment on her lower back and leg between sets but eventually decided to retire, not willing to take any chances before the French Open which begins on September 27.
“I know that`s not the way how Karolina wanted to finish the tournament and the final,” Halep said at the trophy presentation ceremony. “Good luck in the French Open, hopefully we will meet again there in the final.
Meanwhile, in Men’s singles final, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is clashing with Diego Schwartzman of Argentina for the title.
In the semi final match, Schwartzman defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.
While, Djokovic reached the final after a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Casper Rudd of Norway.
