The high-level committee set up to look into the issue of missing files related to 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case, could trace only one file and two files still missing. Official sources said, the committee of Home Ministry has submitted its report.
The papers were misplaced or removed in September 2009 when senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was the Home Minister. In March this year, the Ministry had set up the committee headed by an Additional Secretary to probe the entire chain of file movements in the ministry during the period amid the reports that some files are missing.
Earlier, former Under Secretary in the Ministry, RVS Mani had said that he was pressurized to file the second affidavit in the Supreme Court in which the reference to the LeT terror group naming Ishrat Jahan was dropped. Former Home Secretary GK Pillai had also claimed that there was political interference in the case which led to the deletion of reference to LeT from the affidavit filed in 2009.
