Congress treats Dalits as a vote bank: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that irrigation and drinking water would be the priority of Yeddyurappa, when BJP comes to power in  Karnataka.

Addressing a public rally in Raichur today, he said that farmers suffer due to lack of water, but Siddaramaiah Government indulged in corruption in implementing irrigation projects. He also said the state Government not only failed in removing silt from river beds but also failed in utilizing 900 crore rupees given by Central Government for this purpose.

During an election rally in Chitradurga, Mr Modi said Congress treats Dalits as a vote bank and disregards dalit icon Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar. He informed that it was BJP Government that conferred Bharat Ratna on Dr. Ambedkar and the present government is developing five monuments in his honour. He added that it is BJP that has made a dalit the country’s President and a person from backward class as the Prime Minister. He added that his Government increased a number of provisions in the Prevention of atrocities against Dalits from 22 to 47 to make it more effective.

Addressing a public rally in Jamakhandi, the Prime Minister informed that the Central Government has increased the minimum support price on sugarcane by 11 percent and also deposited financial assistance into the bank accounts of growers. But, the state Government has failed in ensuring fair price to sugarcane farmers. He assured farmers that their suffering will end when their leader Yeddyurappa becomes Chief Minister. The Prime Minister also assured assistance to weavers and added that Ilkal sarees have a rich heritage in this region and will be promoted when BJP comes to power.

Mr Modi addressed his fourth and last rally of the day in Hubbali where he said, his Government has sped up Government machinery and delivery system has improved. Reeling out statistics, he said between 2011 and 2014 just 59 villages were networked with optical fibre, but NDA has networked over one lakh villages. He said, only two companies manufactured mobiles during UPA and it is 120 companies now. He added that four crore families will be provided electricity by October next year when we celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Jayanthi. Mr Modi said under Ayushman Bharat, 2 lakh villages will have wellness centres and 10 crore families will get medical coverage upto five lakh each.
