High Commissioner Pranay Verma along with the Indian community members based in Bangladesh on Saturday virtually attended the Global Millets Conference inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The conference is being organised as part of the International Year Of Millets 2023 celebrations.

Special Millet meals were served on the occasion to promote awareness about the nutritional benefits of Millets and to highlight their resilience to climate change.

Addressing the Indian Community members on the occasion, High Commissioner Pranay Verma highlighted the multi-faceted advantages of the millet rebranded as ‘Shri Anna’ to popularise its usage by the people. Quoting Prime Minister Modi’s speech during the conference, High Commissioner Pranay Verma said that millets can play a significant role in ensuring food security as they are easy to grow in a cost-effective manner. The climate resilient millets are also full of nutrition and financially beneficial to small farmers, said the High Commissioner. He urged people to include millets in their dietary habits.

As the world grapples with the challenge of food security, millets offer an excellent solution for sustainable agriculture. The Global Millets Conference is a step forward in increasing the adaption of millets in our daily diets, said the High Commission of India in a press release.
