Indian casualties cannot be ruled out in Makkah stampede tragedy: MEA

Government of India feel that Indian causalities cannot be ruled out in a stampede at Mina in Makkah. Govt  spokesperson Vikas Swarup, said MEA is still assessing the situation and trying to get details about the casualties. He said, Indian doctors deployed in Mecca during the Hajj season have been asked to work with government hospitals to take care of the injured.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed sadness over the tragic incident at Mina and extended condolences to Government of Saudi Arabia and families of the deceased pilgrims. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has also expressed deep shock and distress over the tragedy.
