President Pranab Mukherjee has said that India’s policy towards China is expanding areas of cooperation and reducing differences between the two countries. Addressing the Indian community at Guanzhou in China last evening, he said, frequent bilateral visits reflects expanding relations between the two great nations.
Mr. Mukherjee said, there has been phenomenal progress in bilateral relations since 1990 and trade between the two countries has increased from 2.9 Billion US Dollars in 2000 to more than 71 Billion US Dollars today. The President said India and China are closely cooperating with each other in most multilateral fora.
President Mukherjee arrived in China on Tuesday on a 4-day state visit to China. On day two of his China visit, President Pranab Mukherjee held discussions with Governor of Guangdong Zhu Xiaodam. Later addressing the India-China business forum, the President called up on the entrepreneurs in China to participate in the programmes being run by the government especially the Make in India programme.
He also said it is an exciting time for India and China ties and government of India will ensure that ease of doing business .
The visit is being considered crucial in improving bilateral relations especially in the background of the new dynamics in relations eversince Prime Minister Modi took office.
Guangzhou has traditional trade and cultural links with India. President would address business community here and inform them about the immense investment opportunities in India. The city has a sizeable Indian community among traders.
President Mukherjee would visit in the Chinese capital Beizing on Wednesday. He will hold bilateral talks with top Chinese leadership including President, Xi Jin Ping and Prime Minister Li Che Quiang.
Another important engagement of the President in Beizing , will be the address at the Peking University, at the convention of Vice Chancelleors of Both the Countries. It will also be attended by academicians and students in large numbers.
India and China have witnessed renewed vigour in bilateral relations in recent years.
Historic visits of Chinese President Xi Jin Ping to India in September and Prime Minister Modi’s visit to China in May last year has further accelerated the process.
Both countries have a booming bilateral trade to the tune of about 75 billion dollars. It is heavily tilted towards China.
India’s effort s will be to bring in more balance in trade relations by increasing Indian exports to China.
During President’s interaction with Chinese leadership the issue of India’s entry to Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and Chinese view on this and also China’s reaction to India’s recent move at the UN to ban the Pakistan based Terror Group Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief Maulana Masood Azhar, is also likely to come up for discussion.
