India has expressed deep concern over the renewed escalation of hostilities in West Asia, describing the latest developments as a matter of “utmost concern” for the international community. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the prolonged conflict has caused significant human suffering and adversely impacted global economic and energy stability.
In an official statement, the MEA called on all parties involved to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure the safety of civilians, and pursue diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the region. India also urged stakeholders to conclude ongoing negotiations and work towards a sustainable political solution.
Latest Developments in West Asia
The security situation in West Asia has deteriorated sharply over the past 48 hours, with Israel and Iran exchanging missile and air strikes in one of the most serious escalations since a ceasefire was reached in April. Israeli forces carried out strikes on military targets in western and central Iran, while Tehran responded with missile attacks targeting northern Israel.
The latest round of violence was triggered by Israeli strikes on Hezbollah-linked positions in Beirut’s southern suburbs, prompting Iranian retaliation and raising fears of a broader regional conflict. Yemen’s Houthi rebels have also threatened to target Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea, further heightening tensions across the region.
The escalating conflict has already impacted global markets, with oil prices surging amid concerns over regional stability and the security of key energy routes. International leaders continue to call for restraint and renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent the situation from spiralling into a wider war.
