India is taking up with China the extension of technical hold on New Delhi’s bid for a United Nations ban against Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. China had recently extended the technical hold for three months.

Responding to a media query, MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said the UN Committee has already pondered over India’s submission of not proscribing Masood Azhar though it has declared JeM as banned organization. He said, India’s main argument made before the committee in March this year was that the main leader, financier and motivator who continues terrorist actions remain unhindered.

Mr Swarup said, designating Masood Azhar as a terrorist would help send a strong signal to all terror groups across the world that the international community is no longer going to pursue, or tolerate, selective approaches to terrorism. He said, distinction between good and bad terrorists is fallacious and counter-productive.
