Senior Congress leader and former Defence Minister A K Antony has asked Modl led NDA government to reconsider its decision on agreeing in-principle to share military logistics with US.
Talking to a news agency, Mr Antony said, such a decision may have repercussion on New Delhi’s independent foreign policy and strategic autonomy. He said the decision is an evasion of India’s policy followed since independence.
Antony said the erstwhile UPA government resisted the agreement for 10 years, and added that it would be disastrous for India.
Two days back, India and the US have agreed in principle to conclude a logistics exchange agreement to enable both militaries to use each other’s assets and bases for repair and replenishment of supplies. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, during the visit of US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter, made it clear that the agreement, which will be signed in coming months, does not entail deployment of American troops on Indian soil.
