The India-Nepal border in Kanchanpur district of Nepal will be closed for two days during upcoming local elections scheduled on June 28 in the neighbouring country.

The decision was taken at a meeting of India-Nepal Coordination Committee held at Mahendranagar yesterday. Both sides agreed to seal the border points from 6:00 AM on June 26 to 5:00 PM on June 28.

The vehicular movement in bordering areas of Pilibhit, Udham Singh Nagar and Champawat districts would also not be allowed in view of the elections. Security along the border areas would be beefed up and India and Nepal security forces will do joint patrolling.

Both sides also agreed to exchange security-related information for checking cross border crimes including smuggling of arms, drugs, wildlife and human trafficking.
