BERLIN: Co-operation in the field of trade, investment, energy, high technology and culture will be the focus of the summit level talks between the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Germen Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin. Dr. Singh arrived in the German Capital later Saturday. He will also meet the President of Germany, Mr. Christian Wulff. Major Regional and global issues will also come up for a review. These include situation in Afghanistan, climate change, the state of global economy and the role of G20 in the recovery process.  

Earlier, India and the European Union decided to fight jointly the menace of terrorism. In a joint declaration, adopted at the 11th India-EU summit in BrusselsIndia and the 27 country bloc condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They also denounced those who sponsor, abet and instigate terrorism and provide terrorists safe heaven. They underlined that cooperation in combating international terrorism including cross border terrorism is one of the key priorities of India-EU strategic partnership.   

 Addressing a joint press conference along with President of the European Council Mr. Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso, after the summit, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said India and the EU have decided to redouble efforts for an early bilateral trade and investment agreement.   

Dr. Singh said a balanced agreement will bring enormous benefits to both the sides and the interests of small farmers and shopkeepers in India will be protected.  

A meeting of Indian Business leaders with EU, a cultural agreement with the European Union and bilateral meetings with the Belgian leaders were held to enhance mutual cooperation. Our correspondent takes a look at the outcome of the summit.
