India has so far evacuated nearly 600 people from Kabul and carrying out the evacuation missions in coordination with the US and several other friendly countries. A small group of Indian officials is coordinating the evacuation mission at the Kabul airport. Another batch of Indians is expected to be brought back from the Afghan capital soon.
President Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and Akali Dal leader Manjinder S Sirsa said, three Sri Guru Granth Sahib and 46 Indian passport holders to arrive in India today. Mr Sirsa said the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara management committee is in touch with minority people in Kabul who wish to be evacuated
India is airlifting its nationals through Dushanbe in Tajikistan and Qatar. The External Affairs Ministry has urged all Indian nationals in Afghanistan requiring assistance to contact its Special Afghanistan Cell immediately. It has set up the Special Afghanistan Cell to coordinate repatriation and other requests from Afghanistan. The capture of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, by Taliban forces on 15 August was the culmination of a military offensive that began in May 2021 against the Afghan government. The capture took place hours after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
Meanwhile External Affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar said, in view of developments in Afghanistan, Prime minister Narendra Modi has instructed that MEA will brief Floor Leaders of different political parties. Dr Jaishankar said, minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi will be intimating further details.
