Over one lakh Sri Lankan Tamil Refugees are presently staying in India and there has been no organized repatriation for them since 1995. Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju informed the Lok Sabha today that India has committed to build 50 thousand houses for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sri Lanka.

In a written reply, the Minister said the Government of Sri Lank has released nearly two thousand acres of land to IDPs in the Northern and the Eastern Province. Mr Rijiju said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, during her visit to Colombo early this year, urged the Sri Lankan government to create conducive environment for refugees to return to Sri Lanka.
