Hong Kong saw scenes of chaos last night after police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters, and a mob attacked commuters in a metro station in Yuen Long district.
Footage posted on social media showed dozens of men attacking people with batons inside the station. Forty-five people were injured, with one person in critical condition.
The unrest came after tens of thousands took to the street for the seventh consecutive weekend amid an ongoing political crisis over a now-suspended extradition bill. This is the first time this kind of violence has been seen in the ongoing anti-extradition demonstrations.
