“He is talking about division on basis of religion”, Ajmal alleged.

Sarma Tuesday had said that it is the party’s policy to differentiate between Hindu and Muslim migrants and asked the people
of Assam to select their enemy, that is, ‘the 1-1.5 lakh or the 55 lakh people’.

In the face of criticism from AIUDF, Union Ministry of Minority Affairs is likely to seek a report from Government of Assam on reports of harassment of minority people in name of detection of ‘D’ voters. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi may visit Assam later this month.

AIUDF president informed that two-member delegation of Assam State Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind called on Naqvi opposing the ongoing encroachment drives and ‘D’ voters. Ajmal was recently elected president of Assam State Jamiat and Aminul Islam its general secretary.

The AIUDF chief said that reports of the State Government planning eviction drives in Mayong and Sipajhar have left the local people anxious. The Government of Assam is conducting eviction operations on the basis of religion,” he alleged.

The law is equal for everybody, he said, alleging that big businessman, politicians, ministers and MLAs also have encroached on government land but the State has not taken any action.

In its memorandum to the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA), the Jamiat has demanded that the State Government should pass legislation for accepting as evidence of all voter’s lists containing mis-spelled names and discrepencies for the purpose of citizenship of a person.
