In Maharashtra, heavy rains lashed parts of Mumbai and neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts this morning and the Met Department has predicted more intense showers during the day in view of the thick cloud over the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for the second consecutive day for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune, Nashik and some other parts of Maharashtra for Wednesday. Rains have been lashing Mumbai and adjoining districts since last night.

While the two Mumbai IMD observatories Colaba and Santacruz reported 53.2 mm and 84.2 mm of rains respectively, adjoining areas like Dahanu have reported extremely heavy rains of more than 300 mm. Waterlogging has been reported at Hindmata, Gandhi Market (Sion), Chembur station, Milan subway, Andheri subway and Dahisar subway.

BMC officials stated that since intensity of rain has reduced, water is receding from the flooding areas. Heavy rainfall in the morning disturbed traffic movement in some low-line areas in the city.

As per IMD’s website, Thane city, Dombivli and Kalyan areas, which are part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), received more than 120 mm rainfall during the same period. Mumbai city and suburbs like Bandra and Kurla received rainfall in the range of 30 mm to 70 mm in the last 12 hours. Besides, the Weather Station at Bhayander in Thane recorded 169 mm rainfall while the one at Mira Road reported 159 mm during the same period.
