The widespread rains which have been lashing several parts of Maharashtra for last few days has helped in increasing the water levels in dams and reservoirs, thereby resolving the water woes.
The Koyna Dam in Satara district accumulated 91.63 tmc of water today morning and the six curved gates of the dam have been closed.
Only 2100 cusecs of water is being released into the river basin now from the base power house of the dam while the flood water has receded in Sangli, Karad and Patan.
However, in the last three days the incessant rains have damaged standing Kharif crops on several hectares of land in Marathwada and some part of Vidarbha region.
According to a preliminary report by the district collector office, 10199 hectares of Kharif crop has been damaged in three talukas of Akola district.
Continuous rains have also caused severe damage to green gram, urad, cotton, turmeric and soybean crops in Hingoli, Jalna and Parbhani districts.
Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil from Hingoli has demanded compensation for farmers saying immediate panchnama should be done of damaged crops and that no farmer should be deprived of help.
Meanwhile, the weather remained cloudy in Mumbai as the city and its suburbs continued to receive intermittent light to moderate rainfall throughout the day today.
The Indian Meteorological Department has said that Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat are likely to receive widespread rainfall over the next four to five days with heavy to very heavy rainfall over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra including Mumbai and Thane.
