Hardik Patel, the 23-year-old Patel quota agitation leader today got bail from Gujarat High Court, but the court told him to stay out of Gujarat for six months and submit his passport to the police.
Arrested in October 2015, Mr. Hardik Patel was slapped with two cases of sedition after his agitation turned violent in July 2015.
He was first arrested by the Surat Police after a video became viral in which he was heard asking a distressed Patel youth to kill “a few policemen instead of committing suicide”.
In July 2015, Mr. Hardik Patel had launched Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) to demand quota in education and government jobs for the Patidar community, which is considered upper caste in Gujarat and enjoys no quota benefits.
