Gujarat Government has distributed 122 lakh quintal of food grains free-of-cost to 4.98 crore people during the three months of lockdown. According to an official release, food grains worth Rs. 3,338 crore have been distributed to 3.23 crore Antyodaya poor and 1.75 crore middle class people.

The distribution of free food grains to the poor families in the state is in line with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s resolution that nobody went to bed hungry due to lockdown. This has helped the poor people facing hardships due to Covid-19 pandemic. This has covered all the families under the National Food Security Act- NFSA. Apart from this, the state government has also distributed food grains to 61 lakh APL card holders from last April.

According to release, 11.8 lakh quintal of wheat and 5 lakh quintal of rice distributed to NFSA families. The distribution of free food grains also continued during the month of June to help the poor people.
