National conference of Waqf Boards

The government has pledged to achieve 100 per cent digitization of waqf properties across the country in its first 100 days.

Addressing the national conference of State and Union Territories waqf boards here today, Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Minister said, Geographic Information System mapping was being used on a war footing to achieve the target.

“This move is aimed at improving the infrastructural and financial conditions of waqf boards so that waqf properties can be used for the welfare of the Muslim community, and encroachment of such properties be prevented”Naqvi said. He said that the government was providing 100 per cent funding to waqf boards for various educational and developmental programmes.

The Minister also gave away national awards to waqf boards for excellence in management. ‘Mutawalis’ (care taker of waqf properties) were awarded under “Qaumi Waqf Board Taraqqiati Scheme” for excellence in waqf management. This is for first time that “Mutawalis” have been encouraged & awarded for better utilisation of waqf properties especially for socio-economic-educational empowerment of needy.

National conference of State and Union Territories waqf boards was organised by the Central Waqf Council, Ministry of Minority Affairs to review the progress of waqf related activities.
