Two days after Union IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad warned Facebook about consequences on abusing data, the Centre today issued notice to Cambridge Analytica — the controversial data mining firm at the centre of Facebook users’ breach.
According to sources in the government, the London-based company has been asked to give its
response by March 31.
The company has been asked by the Ministry of Information Technology to make its position clear on whether it was involved in misuse of data to profile Indians and influence voting pattern of the voters.
“Mr Marc Zuckerberg you better note, if any data theft or abuse of data is done by using the Facebook system this shall not be tolerated. We have stringent power under the IT Act including summoning you in India,” the IT Minister has said at a press conference.
