The NDA Government on Monday introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha amid persistent sloganeering by Opposition members, forcing the House to be adjourned till 2 p.m.
Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh introduced the Bill as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the legal framework against paper leaks and examination malpractices.
On Friday, Union Cabinet had approved a draft Bill to set up fast-track courts and to ensure stricter punishment in cases of paper leaks and exam malpractices.
As the Bill was introduced, Opposition members continued raising slogans, disrupting the proceedings.
Appealing for a discussion on the legislation, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members to allow the House to function smoothly, describing the Bill as an important measure that the country had been awaiting.
“For days, you have been demanding a discussion, and today we are discussing it. Whatever suggestions you give, the government will work on implementing them. This is democracy. I urge the House to engage in discussion and debate instead of sloganeering. Do you not want to discuss?” the Speaker said.
Despite the appeal, the protests continued, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House till 2 p.m.
