Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said NDA government has taken several steps to improve infrastructure in the judiciary to make justice accessible for all.
Talking to media persons in here on achievements of his Ministry in the last four years, Mr Prasad said since Narendra Modi government came to power, 17 Supreme Court judges and 315 High Court judges have been appointed. He added that 247 additional judges have been made permanent.
The Minister pointed out that government has taken initiative to repeal 1428 old and obsolete Acts. There has been substantive increase in the number of fast-track courts. Other initiatives like National Judicial Data Grid having a record of 9.6 crore pending and disposed of cases is also being utilised.
Mr Prasad, who is also Electronics and IT Minister, said there are 3 lakh Common Service Centers at present across 1.83 lakh gram panchayats. This has created village level entrepreneurs, out of which 54,000 are women, and provided jobs to nearly 12 lakh people.
Allocation of 31,732 seats for BPO units operating from small towns have created new employment avenues. BPOs are now working in small towns like Kohima, Guwahati, Imphal, Gutur and Sangli. The Minister said nearly four lakh crore rupees have been disbursed as Direct Benefit Transfer to poor people which has led to saving of 90,000 crore rupees by removing fictitious beneficiaries in the last four years.
