Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said his government is committed to the development of the North-East, adding that central schemes initiated for the benefit of the region have gained momentum. Mr Modi was speaking after dedicating to the nation, the 60-Megawatt Tuirial Hydropower Project in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram today.
With this, Mizoram has become the third state in North East Region to have surplus power energy after Sikkim and Tripura. Mr Modi said the commissioning of the project is a significant milestone in the history of Mizoram. He said it is the first major central project to be commissioned in Mizoram.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura Road, which will improve connectivity and further economic growth. Mr Modi is now addressing a public meeting in Shillong.
