NEW DELHI: An apprehensive government on Thursday appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace and harmony after the verdict by Allahabad High Court in Babri Masjid case. The judgement is expected on 24th of this month.
“It is necessary for all sections of the people of India to maintain equanimity and tranquillity in the aftermath of the judgment”, government said in a statement.
The Union Cabinet which met here on Thursday adopted a resolution to this effect. Giving details of the resolution, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ambika Soni said the judgement needs to be treated with utmost respect.
Soni said there should be no attempt by any one section of people to provoke the other or indulge in any expression of emotion that would hurt the feelings of the other people.
She made it clear that the judgement at this stage is only one step in the judicial process and in case, any of the parties feel that further judicial consideration is required, legal remedies are available. The resolution calls for ensuring highest traditions of Indian culture and respect for all religions.
“India is firmly on the path of inclusive growth and nothing must be said or done which may cause the country to deviate from its goals and objectives” the resolution underlined.
Meanwhile top leaders of RSS and VHP on Thursday held a meeting in Delhi to discuss the issue and decided not to adopt a hard-line posture, if the decision goes against construction of a temple at the disputed site. They favoured an amicable solution.
Meanwhile, Darul Uloom Deoband has also appealed to people to respect the verdict. “We have full confidence in the judicial system of the country. “We appeal to the people to respect the verdict of the Court and maintain peace and communal harmony in the country,” Darul Uloom said in statement.
