A security guard of a private school at the Indira Nagar area in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl. The incident triggered protests by parents who clashed with the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru East said that the accused was arrested following a complaint filed by the parents of the victim, who identified him. Police said the arrested 25 year-old guard, a native of Kolkata, has confessed to have committed the crime in the School yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred yesterday. When the girl’s mother went to the school to pick her and her sister who studies in the same school she was crying inconsolably. The girl’s parents came to know about the incident when she complained of pain in her private parts after returning from school yesterday afternoon.

The girl was taken for medical examination at government run Bowring Hospital on Monday evening and a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). Police sources said that, prompted by the recurring incidents of violence against small kids, the Police had issued safety guidelines for schools. They said in many cases the safety guidelines have been found to be ignored by the school authorities.
