German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in New Delhi today on a five-day visit to India. He was received at the airport by Drinking Water and Sanitation minister SS Ahluwalia.

This is the first visit of Dr. Steinmeier to India as the President of Germany. During his visit, the German President will visit Varanasi later today. He will hold meetings with President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will also call on the visiting dignitary. The German President is also scheduled to attend a business event in New Delhi and visit to Chennai. Our correspondent reports, India’s relationship with Germany is amongst the foremost relations, bilaterally and in global context.

India-Germany bilateral economic cooperation has been robust. Germany is India’s largest trading partner in Europe and the 6th largest trading partner in the world.
