AMN / New Delhi
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has said, after coming to power, the BJP should shed its earlier narrow mindedness and it must ensure equal opportunities for progress and equal dispensation of justice to every section of society in the country. In a 5-day session of its Central Advisory Council which was conducted in Shantapuram – Kerala, the Jamaat reminded the BJP-led Government at the centre about its obligation of discharging its constitutional responsibilities. The meeting was chaired by Ameer (President) of the Jamaat, Syed Sadatullah Hussaini.
The JIH Advisory Council has deliberated on Parliamentary elections, triple talaq bill, NRC, other current national, international issues. The Council has also expressed its deep concerns about the explosive and deplorable situation of the Muslim world. It said, “Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq were already victims of global imperialist struggle and ambition and now the internal situation in Sudan is inviting the intervention of foreign powers. On the other hand, the skirmishes between Saudi Arabia and Iran can lead to a major war in the region. America, Israel and other powers are pushing these countries towards that situation.”
2019 Parliamentary Elections
The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) expects that the elected representatives who won the elections will try their best to honor the mandate given to them by the people of the country. According to the JIH Central Advisory Council some aspects of the election campaign and the issues discussed and debated in it, are serious cause of concern. In this election there was very little discussion and debate regarding important problems and challenges confronting the nation. In the name of nationalism and patriotism, many candidates tried to inflame passions and emotions by completely ignoring standard democratic and moral norms in their speeches and debates. The JIH Central Advisory Council is of the opinion that one might reach the corridors of power by creating such a surcharged atmosphere but it will be at the cost of severe damage to communal harmony in the country and the loss of political sagacity of its citizens. Similarly, the opposition parties became victims of reactionary politics and displayed a complete lack of seriousness, maturity and sense of responsibility. The media is known as the fourth pillar of democracy and is expected to play its role of guiding the people correctly by presenting an objective and realistic analysis of the prevailing conditions in the country. But with a few exceptions, the media regrettably practiced yellow journalism. The people of the country became polarized amidst this political battle. The JIH Central Advisory Council feels that it would do the country well if the electorate seriously evaluates the ideology, the programmes and past performance of the candidates and then exercises its franchise instead of succumbing to rhetoric and emotional slogans. Now that the results are before us, civil society and people’s forums should make serious efforts to apprize the government of its real responsibilities related to the welfare and upliftment of the people.
This JIH CAC session welcomes the statement of the Prime Minister that was delivered after the elections whilst addressing his party’s elected members in which the PM appealed to his lawmakers to win the confidence of the minorities. According to the JIH Central Advisory Council, the PM’s statement is laudable; however, it is regrettable that immediately after his announcement, various actions of the government went directly against the spirit of the PM’s announcement. In the first cabinet session of the government, it was decided to reintroduce the bill pertaining to triple talaq in the Parliament, whereas this bill was already rejected twice earlier by the Parliament and the Muslim community too had unanimously declared this bill to be wrong. At the same time, the Home Minister is talking of expanding the process of NRC all over the country. The JIH Central Advisory Council feels that this initiative of the NRC will become a cause of division and anarchy in the country and a source of trouble for many citizens especially the Muslim community.
The JIH Central Advisory Council would like to draw the attention of the government towards its obligation of discharging its constitutional responsibilities. After coming to power the BJP should shed its earlier narrow mindedness. It must ensure equal opportunities for progress and equal dispensation of justice to every section of society in the country. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind would like to serve a reminder that irresponsible governments have always been rejected by the people in the past. Hence the people cannot be fooled again and again merely by using emotional slogans. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind extends its hand of cooperation and assures the government of its unstinted support for any reasonable and beneficial initiative for the welfare and development of the nation and its minorities. But at the same time JIH shall not shy away from criticizing the mistakes or wrong policies of the government.
The JIH Central Advisory Council would like to remind the opposition parties of its responsibilities. The opposition parties and their leaders should play the role of a responsible opposition. The personal ego, selfishness and unprincipled behavior by politicians and political parties has caused great damage to the nation. We hope that the leaders of the opposition will take a lesson from this election and play the role of the opposition in a responsible manner.
The Central Advisory Council feels that despite the prevalence of a poisonous and polarized climate, the Muslim community of India has displayed immense dignity, maturity and seriousness. Instead of getting instigated and provoked, they maintained peace and harmony and displayed maturity in the exercise of their franchise. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind appreciates this calm and composed approach by the community.
The Central Advisory Council expects that the elected members of Parliament especially the Muslim MPs would work for the real welfare and development of the nation and community and will make efforts towards making the prevailing climate more humanitarian. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind would like to assure them of its support and cooperation in these positive efforts.
The NRC issue in Assam
The JIH Central Advisory Council is deeply concerned over lakhs of citizens especially Muslims being declared as foreigners and efforts to take away their legal and constitutional rights through the NRC process in Assam. The people who were not included in the NRC list will have to present additional documentary evidence before the tribunal. The dictatorial manner in which the tribunal has been refusing to accept these evidences and rejecting these documents merely on the basis of typographical errors has exposed the biased nature of the tribunal. It is very oppressive and criminal to stipulate that even if a single member of the family fails to prove his citizenship then the entire family shall not be registered in the NRC. After the tribunal rejects the application, all doors to the registration of citizenship are closed.
The JIH Central Advisory Council is also seriously concerned that despite all assurances of the Supreme Court, at the level of officers and the tribunal there is a lot of bias and prejudice. There is a possibility that the deadline of 31st July for registration of citizenship may not be met.
The JIH Central Advisory Council is deeply concerned that despite repeated demands by the Supreme Court, the government of Assam is unable to declare their plan regarding people who are being declared as foreigners. At present 6 detention camps have been established in Assam that are devoid of the most basic facilities in which 900 immigrants have been placed. So far almost one lakh people have been declared as illegal immigrants and their current status is still uncertain. The JIH Central Advisory Council severely condemns talk of implementing the NRC all over the country and demands that the BJP government should not push the country towards division and instability for fulfilling its cherished objectives.
The JIH Central Advisory Council considers the Citizenship Bill introduced in Parliament to be wrong, biased and discriminatory in which all other foreign immigrants from neighboring countries except Muslims shall be granted citizenship. The JIH Central Advisory Council feels that the non-Muslims in Assam who have been declared as foreigners (by the NRC) will be granted citizenship again through this new (Citizenship) law and only Muslims will be declared and left out as foreigners. This bill is not only the outcome of a communal mindset but also goes against the pluralistic nature of our nation and also against India’s core ideals and constitutional values. The Central Advisory Council demands that this bill should be taken back or it should be suitably amended by removing the clauses that contain religious discrimination.
Growing trend of barbarism and lawlessness
The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expresses deep concern over the growing trend of barbarism, violence and lawlessness in the country. The Central Advisory Council feels that moral depravity is increasing with terror and barbarism becoming quite common. Vulgarity, prejudice and narrow-mindedness is gaining popularity. Mounting violence against the weak and weaker sections of society are symptoms of this increasing trend. On the other hand, crime against girls, adultery and rape are also increasing very fast. Anti-social elements are attacking Dalits and minorities. Incidents of violence are growing by the day. This beastly attitude is being normalized and gaining acceptance with the righteous element of society becoming helpless against the criminals and mischief-makers.
According to the JIH Central Advisory Council the most regrettable aspect of the prevailing situation is the complete desertion of the sense of responsibility, dereliction of duty and irresponsible behavior by the government and its law and order machinery. Those in the highest echelons of power remain silent over the atrocities committed against Dalits and minorities even as the organizations backing the government keep supporting and encouraging criminals and those committing mob-violence. The Central Advisory Council appeals to the government to ensure that the law of the land is enforced and respected, to guarantee that criminals are punished and penalized, to control those supporting and encouraging criminals and urge those in positions of power and responsibilityto improve the situation through their statements.
The JIH Central Advisory Council feels that the training of the government agencies and government machinery must also receive central focus. They should be cleansed of prejudice and narrow-mindedness. Respect for women should be inculcated in them. It must become mandatory for them to respect the law and action must be taken against corruption and financial irregularities.
The Central Advisory Council feels that besides the government it is also the responsibility of social and religious leaders and the media to keep compassion and love alive in society. It is regrettable that social leaders are silent and indifferent to the situation, a large section of media is busy spreading fake news, promoting hate and prejudice, supporting criminals and proving the oppressed to be guilty and encouraging consumerism and vulgarity.
The Central Advisory Council appeals to the social and religious leaders and the media to realize their responsibility and play its role in finding a solution to stop the oppression, violence, barbarism and moral depravity that is engulfing our nation.
The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind appeals to the general public that instead of being influenced by the people who spread evil they must divert their efforts in reforming society and focus on the moral training and character-building of the younger generation.
The international situation
The JIH Central Advisory Council is deeply concerned and worried about the explosive and deplorable situation of the Muslim world. Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq were already victims of global imperialist struggle and ambition and now the internal situation in Sudan is inviting the intervention of foreign powers. On the other hand, the skirmishes between Saudi Arabia and Iran can lead to a major war in the region. America, Israel and other powers are pushing these countries towards that situation. These powers have an aim to sell their arms and ammunition on a large scale and the other major objective is to destroy the unity of the Islamic world by instigating a fight between two brotherly nations. The Central Advisory Council appeals to both the brotherly nations not to fall prey to the machinations of the global powers. They must resolve their differences through dialogue and discussion.
The Central Advisory Council expresses its concern over the deteriorating situation in Sudan. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind appeals to the Muslim countries that they should undertake some initiative as soon as possible under the auspices of the OIC or through some other appropriate platform so that a transitory government is formed under a civilian leadership through which a democratically elected government can be formed that is representative of all sections of Sudanese society and an atmosphere of peace and prosperity is reestablished.
The Central Advisory Council also expresses concern over the continued violence and attacks by Israel on the oppressed Palestinians especially on innocent children, elders and women. The Central Advisory Council appeals to the Muslim nations of the region, the United Nations and other international organizations that they should stop Israel from this aggression and make it abide by the international treaties and United Nations resolutions. Similarly, Israel should facilitate and ease the free movement and access to basic amenities for the Palestinians living in that region.
The martyrdom of Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi
The JIH Central Advisory Council expresses deep sorrow at the tragic death of the first democratically elected President of Egypt Dr Mohammed Mursi. The conditions in which he died arouse a lot of suspicion. Contrary to the official position of the Egyptian government and through the news coming from independent sources, it is not difficult to imagine it was indeed a custodial killing, the sole responsibility of which lies on the illegitimate Egyptian government and its self-proclaimed President and dictator Abdul Fattah Sisi. The JIH Central Advisory Council prays to the Almighty to accept the martyrdom of Dr Mursi, grant him the highest Paradise and give patience to his bereaved family members. Aamin!
The Central Advisory Council demands from the United Nations, international organizations and other nations to pressurize the Egyptian government to conduct an open, fair and independent enquiry into the killing of Dr Mursi. The JIH CAC also condemns in strong words the Egyptian government for not allowing Dr Mursi to be buried in his native place as per his will. It also did not allow the congregational funeral prayer for the late President to take place. In this way the Egyptian government has not only hurt the Islamic Brotherhood but all the devout and justice loving people of the world. Millions of justice and truth loving Muslims from various countries irrespective of their sect and ideology offered the funeral prayer of the late Dr Mohammed Mursi from which one can gauge the popularity and deep respect this ‘’soldier of Allah’’ had in the hearts of the common people.
On this occasion the Central Advisory Council would like to remind the world that Dr Mohammed Mursi was the only democratically elected President of the Republic of Egypt who had come to power in 2012. In his brief term at office, he had successfully planned to revive the Egyptian economy, supported the Palestinian cause and their legitimate struggle for independence and worked for the protection of the fundamental rights of the Egyptian people. In order to improve relations with Egypt, he had visited Saudi Arabia, Iran, other countries of the Islamic world, China, UAE and Russia. He was also active in challenging the various conspiracies of Israel in the region. He had refused to succumb to the pressure of imperialist forces. Hence there were efforts to conspire against him and create artificial unrest in the public against him. After one year in power he was toppled by the military regime. He was incarcerated after levelling baseless charges against him. Thus, a democratically elected leader was put behind bars for six years in extremely inhumane conditions. He was deprived the most basic facilities and denied meeting his close relatives.
The JIH Central Advisory Council would like to offer condolences to the family members of Dr Mohammed Mursi and all his associates spread throughout the world who are grieving his martyrdom. The noose is tightening for Islam-lovers all over the world and even in some Muslim countries. The JIH CAC exhorts them to persevere on the path of the truth and not feel disheartened. Insha’Allah, very soon they shall achieve success in the Hereafter. Despite oppression and violence, truth shall prevail and evil will fail and perish. Insha’Allah!
