Former Union Minister Buta Singh passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi yesterday. He was 86.
The senior leader was in a coma since October last year after he suffered a brain hemorrhage.
Mr Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha eight-times. He served as Union Home Minister, Minister for Agriculture, Parliamentary Affairs, Civil Supplies, Housing, Shipping, Transport and Sports. He also served as the Governor of Bihar and Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
President, Vice President and Prime Minister have expressed grief on his demise.
President Ram Nath Kovind said, in the passing of Buta Singh, the country has lost one of the longest serving parliamentarians with rich administrative experience.
The President said, he championed the cause of the oppressed and marginalized.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said, he was an able administrator and parliamentarian.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Buta Singh Ji was an experienced administrator and effective voice for the welfare of the poor as well as downtrodden.
