The flood situation in Assam improved today. After days of incessant rains, people got some relief in Upper Assam. Official sources said that there was no report of inundation of new areas in worst hit Jorhat district and 9 relief camps and relief distribution centers have been set up in Golaghat, Jorhat and Barpeta districts. Rice, dal, salt are being distributed by administrations among flood hit people. Nearly 1 lakh 34 thousand people have been affected in seven districts in current surge of water.
In Madhya Pradesh, the situation in the excessive rains affected districts including Bhopal, Raisen and Sehore has considerably improved as rainfall receded. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today again reviewed the flood situation at a meeting in Bhopal. He said that situation is under control and it is fast returning to normalcy. He directed officials to keep a close watch for the next 24 hours. He asked them to complete survey of loses at the earliest to give compensation to affected people. Mr. Chouhan said that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh phoned him and he made him aware about actual situation regarding flood situation. The chief minister said that 15 people have been killed in rain related incidents in different parts and three people are missing.
Water level of most of the major and minor rivers including Narmada and Barna has started receding. Traffic on Bhopal-Jabalpur highway started this evening. In Vidisha, Betwa river is still in spate and low lying areas have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. 1600 people are staying in camps here. In Bhopal and Vidisha, district administration has announced a holiday for schools.
