Senior Congress leader and Member of Rajya Sabha from Manipur, Haji Abdul Salam passed away in Imphal last night after a brief illness. He was 69. Haji Abdul Salam is survived by his wife, son and five daughters.
The first Manipuri Muslim to be a member of Rajya Sabha from Manipur, he represented the Upper House since 2014.
A seasoned politician, he was elected to the 3rd, 6th and 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Wabagai Assembly Constituency. He also served as Minister and was once the Vice President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
Born at Heibong Makhong in Thoubal district on March 01 1948, Abdul Salam completed MA (Political Science) and Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Gauhati University.
Vice President condoles death of Abdul Salam
The Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari has condoled the passing away of the Member of Parliament (RS), Abdul Salam. In a message, he said that Shri Salam will be remembered for his service to the people of the Manipur.
“I am deeply grieved to hear about the demise of Mr.Abdul Salam, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.
A senior Parliamentarian from Manipur, Salam will be remembered for his service to the people of the State.
