Domestic equity benchmarks Nifty50 and Sensex shares rose on Thursday, May 16 led by financial and information technology stocks. The leaner Sensex index rose 676.69 points, or 0.93 per cent, to settle at 73,663.72, while the 50-share index Nifty settled at 22,403.85, up 203.3 points, or 0.92 per cent. 

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index rose 1 percent while the Small-cap index gained 0.85 percent. In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 25 companies appreciated, 5 companies declined. Mahendra and Mahendra Surged 3 percent, Tech Mahendra rose 2.6 percent and Bharti Airtel increased by 2.5 percent.

On the other hand, Maruti dropped 2.2 percent, Tata Motors declined 1.2 percent and State Bank of India lost 1. percent. In sectoral indices at the BSE, all sectors registered gains except Utilities that ended in flat territory. Capital goods and Industrials rose 2 Percent, Tech Sector gained 1.66 Percent and Realty added 1.6 Percent.

The overall Market breadth was positive, as the shares of 2125 companies advanced, 1706 companies declined and 121 companies remained unchanged.

5 Asian Major Indices are positive today. South Korea’s Kospi added 0.82 percent, Japan’s Nikkei rose 1.2 percent, Singapore’s Straits Times index gained 0.47 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index climbed 125 percent and China’s Shanghai Composite Index marginally up by 0.08 percent.

All 3 European major Indices are in Red today. Germany’s DAX lost 0.25percent, U.K.’s FTSE decreased by 0.2 percent and France’s CAC 40 trading at 0.43percent down when reports last came in. All 3 US Major Indices ended in Green on Tuesday. Nasdaq gained 1.4 percent, Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.2 percent, S&P 500 rose 1.17percent.

Gold price witnessed a slight decrease today. The Precious Metal, for 5th June 2023 contract is trading at 73099 Rupees per 10 Grams. Silver for 5th July 2023 contract was trading at 87411 Rupees per KG, when reports last came in.

Among the Nifty companies, 38 were advancing while 12 were declining. Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Consumer Products, Bharti Airtel, LTIMindtree, and Tech Mahindra led the gains in Nifty 50 universe while Maruti Suzuki, State Bank of India, Power Grid and BPCL were the top decliner.
