Japan and Senegal played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Ekaterinburg last night to remain well placed to reach the knock-out stage. Senegal went in front twice during the game through goals from captain Sadio Mane and Moussa Wague, but Japan came back each time, courtesy brilliant equalisers from Takashi Inui and substitute Keisuke Honda.
Later, in the other Pool-H game at Kazan, Colombia kept their Round-of-16 hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Poland, who bowed out, following their second straight defeat. Yerry Mina and Radamel Falcao found the net before Juan Cuadrado capped off a fine team performance.
The final round of group matches is beginning today. In Pool-A, Uruguay will play hosts Russia in Samara, with Egypt taking on Saudi Arabia in Volgograd. Uruguay and Russia have already progressed to the pre-quarterfinals from the group. All eyes will, however, be on Pool-B in which Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal as well as Spain and Iran will look to seal a place in the Round-of-16. Portugal will face Iran in Saransk, while Spain will meet Morocco in Kaliningrad.
