The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers announced today that 15 ships carrying essential fertilizers and raw materials for India have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz. This shipment includes eight vessels transporting 3.32 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea, four carrying 2.57 LMT of diammonium phosphate, and three carrying 1.11 LMT of sulphur, with an additional five vessels currently scheduled for departure toward India.
Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted that while the West Asian conflict previously disrupted global supply chains—causing increased prices and transit delays—Indian Missions abroad played a critical role in facilitating connections with international producers. Minister Nadda emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government remains committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests by working closely with State Governments to ensure transparent distribution and regional availability.
Furthermore, the Ministry reported that natural gas supplies to fertilizer plants have returned to 100 per cent capacity, recovering from a temporary dip to 65 per cent. To date, the government has secured 197.56 LMT of fertilizer stocks, covering over 51 per cent of India’s annual requirement of 383.9 LMT. Through these coordinated efforts in both domestic production and strategic imports, the Ministry confirmed that adequate fertilizer supplies are being maintained nationwide.
